Welcome Back!

Editorial

Welcome back to school, Pirates! We have missed you and now the new school year has finally arrived. However, it is a little different than what students are used to seeing. Since students left school in March, many conditions have changed! Precautions are currently being taken in order to provide the best school experience possible for the students of Mepham High School. The beginning of this school year may not look the same as always, but it is sure to be a great year nonetheless.

The Mepham staff is working hard to keep all students safe. New boundaries and rules are in place, such as plastic surrounding the desks and masks worn at all times. Each student and staff member is required to complete a health survey before entering school to guarantee that they are healthy, creating an additional layer of protection for everyone in school.

Although we may have more limited extracurricular activities, Mepham is still incorporating some fun events to make the school year the best it can be! Spirit week, Honor Society inductions, and Mepham’s Flag Field of Honor are still events that students can look forward to this fall. And with intramurals and clubs starting, students have begun to participate in after school activities, while still adhering to COVID-19 guidelines. Students can participate in intramurals to play a sport, or join a wide variety of clubs—a full list of clubs can be found on the school website. We encourage you to participate in an extracurricular; it can be stress relieving and creates the opportunity to spend time with friends in a safe environment.

Beginning a new school year, we know that every student can be a bit nervous, even more so this year, as we have never experienced anything quite like this pandemic. We do not know what the future holds. However, we are strong and can successfully make it through this tumultuous time. Although challenging, students and staff are abiding by the rules in order to keep Mepham safe and continue in person schooling. Wearing a mask all day is hard, and sitting behind plastic barriers may be difficult, but the precautions are being taken to make sure that the students of Mepham can have a fun, yet safe, school year.

We sincerely hope that you have a wonderful year, and continue to stay safe! Make sure to wear a mask in public so you test negative, while staying positive!
