Where are you, Snow?

It is the first day of winter break and I’m gazing out my window, wondering if my good friend Snow is okay. Why haven’t you visited me this winter season? For as long as I can remember, we always had a deal: I visit you annually for our fun family ski trips, and in return, you come to my house for sledding and friendly snowball fights. So I am left wondering:where are you, snow?
This winter 2023 marks the warmest winter in New York City with temperatures of about 9.8 degrees above the normal temperature. This year’s average winter temperature is approximately 43.5 degrees Fahrenheit, which is unusually high for New York City winters. The snowfall for New York City has been extremely low at .4”. As many gaze out of their windows wondering if snow will visit them this week, they are disappointed to see that their flower buds have already started blooming. The main reasons why it has been so warm this winter season in New York City is due to climate change and La Niña. Climate change has caused temperatures to rise globally causing fewer amounts of snow. La Niña is a global wind pattern that is causing warmer winters. Due to the fact that the jet stream is located north of New York City, the temperature levels have increased severely.
I refuse to give up on my good friend Snow and hopefully, the month of March will bring many snowflakes.
