As we enter the 2023-2024 school year, classes are starting, the leaves are browning and clubs are beginning. Joining school clubs has always been a large part of Mepham’s culture among the students. This year, there are a variety of new clubs, such as the Future Medical Leaders and American Sign Language Clubs.
The Future Medical Leaders club was created by seniors, Aishah Minhas, Christiana Foufas, and Fiona Zheng and advised by Ms. Stehl. Similar to Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), which focuses on students interested in the business field, the Future Medical Leaders club (FML) wants to create a community for students who are interested in the Medical Field. There are various careers in the field that many students do not know about, and the steps necessary to get there, which is why FML wants to help students in that aspect. In addition to this, FML is trying to plan basic life support classes for the students, dissections and other fun activities. Join the Google Classroom for more information: 6lpjvkq
Another new club to join is the American Sign Language (ASL) Club founded by senior Elana Hechtman and advised by Ms. Dennis. The ASL Club is an educational club where the students will have the opportunity to learn a whole new language! The meetings take place monthly where new topics are taught, from the alphabet to food, family, and many others. Hechtman’s goal is to be able to reach as many people as possible and provide the opportunity for people to learn about an important, yet underrepresented language in today’s society. American Sign Language is a great language and is available to everyone to learn. Join the Google Classroom for more information: te5wi6
In such a large school, it is important for us to build a community with collective interests and goals. These clubs are a great way to have a strong start off to the school year while connecting with others.
