Kriti Saini, a senior here at Mepham High School, is a talented artist that works with a variety of mediums. Saini was recently honored as Mephams “Featured Artist”, where her artwork was framed and hung near the main entrance. The piece was of her great-grandfather, who she made a portrait of in his natural appearance.
“A lot of my family speaks multiple languages, and sometimes creates language barriers between us,” says Kriti Saini. “But making portraits of my family allows me to connect with the people I love most.”
In recent times, Kriti Saini commonly makes portraits of her family members, as ways to bond with her family and her culture as a whole. Her grandmother, for example, shared a language barrier with her, and limited their communication. This inspired Saini to make a portrait of her, as a way to connect.
All in all, Saini’s work is one to commemorate and share, as it represents family, culture, interconnectedness and understanding.
