This year Mepham welcomes a new assistant principal at the start of the 2024-2025 school year. Mrs. Dell’Olio, a new face in room 125, discussed her new role at Mepham during a brief meeting.
Though she may be in a new position she isn’t new to the district. Mrs. Dell’Olio has been working in the Bellmore-Merrick CHSD for 19 years. She worked at Calhoun and Kennedy before joining us at Mepham. Prior to becoming the assistant principal, Mrs. Dell’Olio worked in special education. She was a special education teacher for 13 years before becoming the chairperson of the department for five years. Therefore, she has a history of helping kids. Mrs. Dell’Olio expressed she loves working with kids and sees value in helping students with school, and this helped inspire her to pursue education.
Mrs. Dell’Olio loves her new position. She thinks it is an incredible role and is really enjoying it. Her role has changed from working with teachers and students in special education to now helping all students and teachers with various tasks. As the grade level administrator for 9th and 11th grade, she oversees clubs, security, and school events such as Homecoming and Pep Rally.
Mrs. Dell’Olio got to experience high school in Garden City Park at Mineola High School. She was involved in sports, playing basketball, volleyball and lacrosse which thoroughly allowed her to enjoy high school. She shared that she had some good and some not good teachers, but they all inspired her in different ways. A few of Mrs. Dell’Olio’s hobbies include running, reading, working out and cooking. She says her kids’ hobbies are also part of her interests, and she wants to help them figure out who they are and their passions. Mrs. Dell’Olio is a Jets fan, and she and her husband are both Rangers fans.
There are many exciting events for Mrs. Dell’Olio to look forward to this year. In her new role she has already experienced her first Freshman Orientation, Pep Rally and Homecoming. She states that every week there is something new to look forward to.
Mrs. Dell’Olio says her number one goal is to have an impact on the school’s community, culture, and spirit. Her favorite part about Mepham is that it’s a family. The incredible people that work and go to school here and the families involved with the school help make it a special place. Our new assistant principal wants people to follow the golden rule; treat others the way you want to be treated. Mrs. Dell’Olio is excited about her new role and is looking forward to what the rest of the year has to bring.
