On October 15, 2024, Mepham High School held an induction ceremony for the students eligible to be admitted into the world language honor society. This induction was held to celebrate the accomplishments of students excelling in French, Italian, Mandarin, and Spanish.
According to World Languages Chairperson Mrs. Kaplan, students must achieve a 90 or above cumulative GPA for three semesters prior to induction. At the induction ceremony, members of each society shared beautiful poems. Italian Honor Society Co-President Victoria LoBasso recited “Autunno” by Vincenzo Cardarelli; French Honor Society Co-President Ty Chang delivered “Le Corbeauet le Renard” by Jean de la Fontaine; Mandarin Honor Society member Rajan Randall presented a quote from “The Analects of Confucius”; and Spanish Honor Society President Joseph Mordoff performed “Poema de la amistad” by Octavio Paz.
Additionally, Senior Angelina Lix sang, “Los diamantes de la corona – De que me sirve” by Francisco Asenjo Barbieri. Following this, each honor society recited an oath which indicated they were committed to stretch and expand their knowledge and use language to make new connections.
Finally, the students walked across the stage to obtain their certificates. This represented the importance of students learning new languages at school and utilizing their newfound knowledge.
