On December 11, 2024, chorus had their annual winter concert held in the Mepham High School auditorium. This concert was separated into three different groups: Concert Choir, Mixed Choir, and MephAcapella. The Mixed Choir performed first and opened the night with a cheerful rendition of “Let It Snow.” The group then performed “Easy On Me” by Adele, a heartfelt and emotional song that quickly resonated with the audience.
Next up was the Concert Choir, a talented group composed of sophomores, juniors, and seniors with various vocal parts. This section performed three songs: “Bonse Aba,” which is a traditional Zambian folk song arranged by Victor C. Johnson; “Beethoven’s Fifth,” which is a scat song arranged by Tom Anderson and focuses on rhyme instead of words; and “Can’t Help Falling In Love,” which is a moving song about love arranged by Marcelo Minal. “Beethoven’s Fifth” stood out as a particularly exciting piece, as the audience could feel the music. It is important to focus on the sound of the music and specific notes when listening to scat music since this genre shifts the emphasis from the words, like most songs, to its rhyme.
MephAcapella, an incredibly talented audition group of passionate singers from ninth through twelfth grade, closed up the night with: “If I Ain’t Got You,” featuring soloists Mariela Pavlica and Kiran Persaud, as well as “Price Tag,” featuring Gianna Commisso and Arisleiny Clase. MephAcapella captivated the audience from their first note, and delivered two fun and powerful performances.
A big thanks to the two chorus teachers, Ms. Dimitriou and Ms. Shapiro, for all of the hard work that was put into this magical concert! If you weren’t able to make the show, be sure to check out the BMB YouTube channel!
