As football season comes to an end, the kickline team will begin their competitions, bringing with them four different dances that they have been diligently practicing. There are six competitions that take place around other high schools on Long Island. The girls practice hard every week with the determination of winning a trophy for Mepham. In March, the girls and Coach Dennis travel to Florida to compete in the NDA national championship. Coach Dennis comments, “I’m really excited to go back and compete for the national championship.” Although it is a competition the girls always have fun and are able to show what they have been working on. A proud accomplishment of our kickline team was their victory back in 2020 for winning the national championship. Junior Sadie Hellerer is excited to compete at nationals and hopes to win the “black jacket” that comes with winning. This season, they will continue to strive towards victory and will put in even more work in efforts of winning and taking home another championship for Mepham.
Mepham’s Varsity Cheer team has also been working hard every day with practice six days a week. They compete most weekends and have been working on and perfecting their competition routine and skills since September while adding new skills to their routine. Junior Grace Pantelis, says, “We have more talent on the team than we ever had before and are hungry to take home the first-place national championship.” She is determined that the team has what it takes to be national champions as they take the mat in Florida in February.
Our Varsity kickline and cheer teams are eager to compete and show off what they have been tirelessly working on. As the season is coming to an end they cannot wait to finish off strong!
