The smell of peppermint and gingerbread lingered in the west cafeteria following the annual gingerbread house decorating contest. The event was run after school by Mepham Art Club on December 11th, 2023. The competitors in this contest used icing, pretzels, gummy bears, candy canes and so many more desserts to perfect their edible creations.

In the end, there could only be one winner out of the many colorful, sugary houses. The winner featured gummy sharks approaching the house, through the blue tie-dye ocean, which makes perfect sense at Santa’s Beach House. The house, labeled with a sign on a candy cane, was located on a sandy, teddy graham-crumb beach with a sour palm tree beside it.

The winning team, Leah Smith, Sierra Barbosa, and Grace Skulavik, included a variety of snacks in their finished piece, going to show both the artistic and culinary creativity of Mepham students. Congratulations to the winning team and a big thank you to all who participated in this yearly competition!
