Dumbo Soars Into Theaters

Live-action movies. Something that has been becoming more normal, beginning with Cinderella, The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast and now Dumbo, a Disney classic that everyone loves. Dumbo is a heartwarming movie that shows what the circus is really like. But yet again it shows how being different is good and not always a bad thing. However, full credit is due to Tim Burton for directing this amazing movie.

For me, Dumbo has always been one of my favorite Disney movies. When I heard that they were coming out with a live-action version, I was so excited to see it, I couldn’t wait, especially with Tim Burton directing it. Dumbo is about a baby elephant who has big ears, unlike other elephants, who was born into the circus. The circus owner used him because he was different and used him as a clown act. But, they discovered he could fly and used that as one of their showstoppers. But, Dumbo and his mom were separated because kids at the circus were making fun of Dumbo, causing his mom to act out. Throughout the movie they try to save Dumbo’s mom and help them escape from the circus. The live-action was amazing. The details to the animals and to the original movie was incredible. It paid such great attention to the details, and all the animals looked unbelievably realistic. Disney has done it again with another great live-action film. For me, this is one of my favorites, and I am also a cry-baby, so some tears did fall, but they were happy tears. With these new live-action movies being made of many orignal, truly-loved Disney movies, there may be backlash, but I think that Disney is getting better and better with these types of movies. Although it was different than the original, it was still outstanding.

Looking at Wikipedia, “The film has grossed over $266 million worldwide and received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the performances of the cast and Burton’s signature style but criticized the screenplay and ‘lack of heart’ compared to the original.” It was different in some aspects, than the original. However, I still enjoyed it. As I sat in the theater, I felt like a little kid again watching a Disney movie and eating snacks.

In my opinion, Disney keeps getting better at live-action movies, Dumbo and Christopher Robin being a few of my favorites, with Aladdin and Mulan being the next ones I am most excited for, I will continue to watch and feel like a little kid again watching her favorite Disney movies, especially since I am a huge Disney fan. I hope they remake The Little Mermaid and more original Disney movies into live-action films.
