All About Marvel’s “Black Widow”

Beware of MCU spoilers.

Nastasha Romanoff. AKA, the Black Widow. She’s one of the most iconic Marvel characters and she’s finally getting her time to shine! Starring Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, O-T Fagbenle, Ray Winstone, and Rachel Weisz, “Black Widow” will be hitting movie theaters on November 6. Now, if you’re a Marvel fan, you might notice that this November date is starkly different than the original release date. The movie was supposed to premiere on May 1st, but was pushed due to the on-going COVID-19 crisis. Still, that gives us fans time to stir up more excitement!

Following (AVENGERS: ENDGAME SPOILERS HERE) Natasha Romanoff’s untimely death in “Avengers: Endgame,” fans were heartbroken, thinking that was the end of one of our most beloved characters After 10 years in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, her death felt unjust, especially because we never got to see her star in her own solo movie. However, at San Diego Comic Con 2019, Marvel Studios announced “Black Widow”. Since then, we’ve seen short teasers, as well as a full length trailer! Unfortunately, we don’t technically get to see Black Widow come back to life, as the movie is a prequel that takes place before “Avengers: Infinity War.”

In the final trailer released, we’re first introduced to Yelena Belova (Natasha’s sister) as she’s talking to her, telling Natasha what she tells people about her sister (spoiler alert, it’s the exact opposite of her life!). It then immediately jumps into the action, showing off Taskmaster, the antagonist of the movie. Taskmaster’s skills include mimicking other people’s skills/powers, which is demonstrated through his use of a Captain America-like shield. After that, we’re shown the Red Room. Natasha says that she must go back to where it all started and end it. This means that we’ll most likely see her fight to save the girls in the Red Room. (I don’t know about anyone else, but personally, I’m most excited to see what they do with the Red Room!) If you don’t know what the Red Room is, it is where young girls are trained to become assassins and where Natasha herself was trained.

We see Natasha fight alongside her family (!!) and vow to mark the red off her ledger once and for all. Combine this all with epic music and phenomenal acting, and we’re in for a serious treat. We get to see so many aspects of Black Widow that we have never seen before, like Natasha in her white suit from the comics (which she has never worn in a movie thus far), along with some flashbacks and insight into what she was doing on the run post “Captain America: Civil War.” (Or maybe we’ll finally hear her speak Russian…) Who knows? It’s possible we’ll even somehow see our precious Black Widow come back to life!

Are you excited yet? If not…go watch the “Black Widow” movie trailer and maybe catch up on those Marvel movies you might have skipped out on. (Yes…I mean watch all of them!) Don’t forget to add the new November 6 release date of “Black Widow” to your calendars and keep your eyes peeled in case Marvel releases more info!
