The Vocal Showcase is an annual event that celebrates the talented singers in the Bellmore-Merrick school district. With performances by the select choirs from each school in the district and a group finale of “Firework” by Katy Perry, it was an amazing night full of entertainment and community.
The Vocal Showcase, an event put together by Bellmore-Merrick’s music department, took place on November 25 at Calhoun at 7:00pm, where the select choir groups across all five schools in the district came together to sing. Each choir performed their own two songs before a big group finale, during which audience members were invited to sing along to “Firework” by Katy Perry with the students. MephAcapella represented Mepham at this event, singing “Price Tag” by Jessie J, and “If I Can’t Have You” by Alicia Keys.
Although the Vocal Showcase took place at night, there was much daytime preparation that went into making it possible. Students from the select choir groups went to Calhoun during the school day in order to prepare “Firework” and get to know each other. The three high school choir teachers, Mrs. Pincus, Ms. Dimitriou, and Ms. Shapiro helped teach the song, offering their unique styles of teaching to students they don’t normally instruct.
Not only does the Vocal Showcase provide new learning experiences, but it also gives the choirs a chance to practice for the Winter Concert in a cheerful and welcoming environment. The audience is always full of love and support from members of the Bellmore-Merrick community and is open to anyone who wants to watch the amazing singers perform. Overall, the Vocal Showcase is a wonderful way for the community to have fun and celebrate the joys of singing with each other.
