On Sunday, September 7, the MTV VMAs were hosted by LL Cool J just a short drive away, at UBS Arena. It was a night full of performances, where many moon persons were handed out to some much deserving artists.
Lady Gaga was nominated for 12 awards, the most nominations of the entire night. Closely behind her was Bruno Mars with 11, and right behind them were Kendrick Lamar, Arianna Grande, Sabrina Carpenter and The Weeknd.
There were many performances by artists such as Tate McRae, Lady Gaga, Sabrina Carpenter, Conan Gray, Sombr and more. Some fan favorites were Tate McRae and Sabrina Carpenter. Sabrina Carpenter performed “Tears” from her new album “Man’s Best Friend.” Tate McRae had a high energy performance of “Sports Car” and “Revolving Door” while in a black sand pit, which made the performance stand out amongst others.
Lady Gaga was the biggest winner of the night, taking home four awards which include Artist of the Year and Best Collaboration for “Die With a Smile” with Bruno Mars. Sabrina Carpenter and Arianna Grande were also big winners, each taking home three awards; Arianna Grande won awards in the major categories of Video of the Year and Best Pop. The Best New Artist award went to Alex Warren, who just released his debut album this year. Sabrina Carpenter also won big categories such as Best Pop Artist and Best Album. The Song of Summer award went to Tate McRae for her “F1 the Movie” track “Just Keep Watching.”
With the fan-voted awards and performances from different artists throughout the night, the 2025 VMAs were a fun and entertaining night for artists and viewers alike.
