Oscars and Grammys recap

Throughout February and March, entertainers of all kinds put on their fanciest suits and dresses to attend some of the most spectacular evenings in Hollywood: The Oscars, celebrating movies, and the Grammys, celebrating music. Awards season acknowledges the popular actors, actresses, creatives and musicians for their work in the industry. 

Jimmy Kimmel hosted this year’s Oscars, where movies such as “Oppenheimer,” “Poor Things” and “Killers of The Flower Moon” took home the majority of the awards.  Actor Cillian Murphy won best actor for his role in “Oppinheimeras J. Robert Oppinhimer. “The Amazing Spider-Man” and “LaLa Land” star Emma Stone took home her Academy win for “best actress” for her role as Bella Baxter in Tony McNamara’s news film “Poor Things.” The movie also took home awards for best makeup and hairstyling, costume design and best production design.

Many were surprised to see the “Barbie” movie, directed by Greta Gerwig, only received one win out of eight nominations. Billie Eilish won Best Song for her global hit, “What Was I Made Forin the “Barbie” movie. However, as a highlight to the Oscar night, everyone’s favorite Ken, actor Ryan Gosling, got the chance to perform his song “I’m Just Ken,” alongside the Guns n’ Roses guitarist Slash, during the ceremony. 

The Grammys are a night of singing and dancing for the ones lucky enough to attend. Many different artists from all genres of music took home the awards for the night. Miley Cyrus won her first Grammy for Song of The Year, while Taylor Swift walked away with Album of the Year for her 2022 album “Midnights,” and became the musician with the most Grammys for Album of The Year.The singer also stated the release of her newest album “The Tortured Poets Department” which coming out on April 19.

A few noteworthy performances from this year’s Grammy Awards were by Olivia Rodrigo, SZA, and Miley Cyrus. Other artists like Joni Mitchell performed for the first time in many years, and Billy Joel sang his newest song, “Turn the Lights Back On,” performing for the first time in thirty years. 

The Oscars and Grammys this year really showed the talent for the entertainment industry of our time. This year was a great year for movie making and music. We were inspired by everyone who is on screen, singing and also behind the scenes. Now that the awards season has come to a close, it’s time to start looking for next year’s line up.
