Mepham High School held the 13th annual Chop Your Locks for Charity St. Baldrick’s event on March 22 from 6-8pm in the south gym. Almost $68,000 was raised for cancer research.
Organized by the Senior Participation in Government students and supported by social studies chair Ms. Einbinder and social studies teachers Ms. Dennis and Mr. Patten, students, parents and others came to show their support for many people who suffer from cancer.
As one of the many people who shaved their head, Senior Mathew Barsallo said, “I’ve always wanted to shave my head and now with this great cause coming up I had decided to do it now.” This shows how supportive people are in participating in this event and sacrificing something people deem sacred to them.
Junior Noah Merhai said that he did it for childhood cancer and he even got his family member to contribute to the cause. People like Junior Drew Levitan who did it for his grandpa who sadly passed away from cancer participated in the event to honor family members who have been affected by cancer.
Overall St Baldrick’s was a good way for Mepham to contribute back to our community, bring awareness and people together, and above all give resources to cancer patients in need.
