A community-focused spirit week culminated in a fired-up Pep Rally and Pirate Fest on September 19, and a Homecoming game victory on September 20, followed by a large turnout for Mepham High School’s first Homecoming dance in a very long time.
On September 19, the annual Pep Rally took place on Mepham’s football grounds. Each class sat in their respective sections and brought their all in planned games and activities, ranking up points for Battle of the Classes.
Afterwards followed Mepham’s annual Pirate Fest, a fundraising event for clubs and extracurriculars to generate profit by selling a variety of different foods, trinkets, and more. Many groups also sold baked goods and treats to raise funds, including Student Government, the Muslim Student Association (MSA), the Black Student Union (BSU), Model UN, Class of 2029, Class of 2027, and Robotics Club. These student run groups sold many different treats, from cotton candy (Model UN) to Crumbl cookies (Student Government) to Dubai Chocolate Brownies (MSA). Other more unique examples of fundraising included Key Club’s sale of mini-spider plants, which were asexually produced in the school, or Mock Trial’s use of the iconic 2010’s staple “glitter tattoos.” Of course, the Mr. Softie truck made an appearance and was a hit with not only the students, but the teachers as well.
On September 20 the Homecoming game took place. The Mepham v. Macarthur game was back and forth. A seven point lead often separated the two teams, leaving the audience to question how the scores would pan out. However, by the end of the third quarter and the beginning of the fourth, Mepham had a strong lead, which ended in victory against the opposing school with a score of 24-2. This gave the student body a reason to celebrate, and what better way to celebrate than with a dance?
The first official Mepham Homecoming Dance in over twenty years took place this weekend. The Brookside Gymnasium was filled with dancing, laughing, snacking, and singing along with fellow students of the Mepham community. Towards the end of the dance, Mepham’s Homecoming Queen and King were announced. The Homecoming court consisted of George Karousis, Ryan Lechleitner, Chloe Piano, Samira Ramoutar, Gulshan Singh, and Halen Songo, with Halen Songco and Ryan Lechleitner coming out on top in the vote. In dimming light, blasting music and dancing peers, Mepham’s Homecoming weekend 2025 came to a successful end.
