There’s one event that never fails to take Mepham by storm. Cheers across the bleachers, a thousand variations of eye black, and a competitive spirit roaring. It’s the annual Battle of Classes, which took place at Brookside’s gym on November 18, 2025.
Before the event started, the senior class held the lead through the various pre-events, such as Penny Wars, class color wearing, and more. But the other classes, particularly the juniors and sophomores, were quick to catch up. The first game was the classic jumbo beachball volleyball; anticipation filled the air, and in a twist of events, the sophomores scored a win. A mix of classic Battle of the Classes competitions followed, including the scooter race, hula hoop relay, dances, and many more. The theme this year was superheroes, so the dances contained a mix of theme songs, soundtracks, capes, and costumes. The dances were not the only aspect decked out in superheroes; the banners, handmade and displayed behind each class’s section, depicted scenes of wicked fights between the grades and heroes saving the day.
Alongside these loved traditions, a couple of new additions made their debut. The star amongst these newcomers was a unique challenge. In this game, a person would run across the gym holding a balloon, then, using their strength, would attempt to pop the balloon between their bodies and a chair by sitting down. As the game commenced, laughter and cheers filled the gym, chairs broke, and balloons flew through the air. It had certainly become a favorite.
Senior Prisha Arya shared, “Battle of the Classes is one of my favorite events because it is one of the only times our entire grade can come together and get to just have fun. I also love to compete with the other grades and our teachers.” This sentiment had perfectly captured the excitement and camaraderie that define Battle of the Classes.
After a vicious game of tug of war and two hours of competing, the points were tallied up, and the winners were crowned. This year, alongside many others, ended with the seniors on top. Celebration erupted in the gym as the senior class took center stage to showcase their victory.
While only one grade won the title of Battle of the Classes victors, another group of people also won. This year, the charity that Battle of the Classes raised money for was Ronald McDonald House, a nonprofit charity dedicated to supporting families with sick children in their time of need. In total, the Mepham community raised over $9,000 to help those in need. This initiative made the event all the more successful.
The 2025 Battle of the Classes once again proved to be an unforgettable event filled with excitement, creativity, and competition. From the spirited games to the superhero-themed festivities, this night showcased the unity of the student body. While the seniors claimed the victory this year, the true triumph was the collective effort of all the grades, as well as the support for an impactful charity. It makes sense why this is the most anticipated event of the year, and we can not wait to see how it plays out in 2026.
