Hello, Pirates! Welcome back to school! This school year is a little different for both the students and teachers at Mepham since a new phone ban has been implemented. This phone ban restricts the use of personal devices, such as iPhones, smartwatches, headphones, personal computers, and more from bell to bell. This requires, for many, a huge adjustment from prior years. However, many teachers view this ban as a breath of fresh air since more students are able to concentrate and actively engage during class.
As far as school events go, Pep Rally was the first major event of the school year. At Pep Rally, students were not only able to congratulate their fellow student athletes, but also had the opportunity to win Battle of the Classes points for their grade.
Immediately after the Pep Rally was Pirate Fest! At Pirate Fest, various clubs fundraised by selling items like desserts, plants, temporary tattoos, and more, and advertised their upcoming events in hopes of recruiting new members. The day after Pep Rally, Mepham had its annual Homecoming game, and the week leading up to Homecoming, Mepham had Spirit Week. During this week, students and faculty dressed up according to the assigned theme of the day, helping to build the Mepham community.
As far as the actual football game itself, Mepham played MacArthur High School, and while this game was a nail-biter and the score remained close, Mepham ultimately won the game! That night, Mepham had its first Homecoming Dance to celebrate. Students spent a fun night with their friends, and the Homecoming King and Queen titles were awarded to Halen Songco and Ryan Lechleitner. Mepham’s Valedictorian and Salutatorian were also announced in September: the Valedictorian is Gulshan Singh and the Salutatorian is Sofia Caba. Congratulations to them both!
For the underclassmen here at Mepham, try your best to attend the school events as well as the clubs! Make sure you don’t miss the Skull & Bones Drama Club’s play of “Clue” as well as their school musical, which is later in the year. All seniors, make sure you write yourself an unforgettable ending to your final chapter here at Mepham and continue to get involved!
