The Mepham Girl’s Cross Country began their fall season with confident strides.
Guided by head coach Justin Renna, the girls cross country team entered the season ready to break PR’s and push their limits, one stride at a time. The team came together to practice even before the beginning of the school year, logging in miles in the August heat and tending to any soreness that they acquired during summer training.
The first meet took place at LIU Post, where the team navigated unfamiliar terrain in the woods. Despite the undergrowth and trees obscuring the trail, the team conquered the tricky course through grit and remarkable endurance.
Towards the middle of the season, the team took on a 5k at Eisenhower Park, truly testing their stamina and endurance. After finishing her race, Kyla Friel, a junior member of the team for two years, expressed her experience of being a part of the team with inspiring enthusiasm. “Everyone is so passionate and quick to support each other. As a team we have gotten very close because we faced so many challenges together.”
The Girl’s Mepham Cross Country team is extremely successful in cultivating a welcoming and supportive environment, as stated by Sophomore Lily Sanchez-Emiliano. “We all bring each other up no matter how slow or fast you are. We always come together as a family to support one another.”
As the team gears up for State Championships and prestigious invitationals, they continue to refine their running skills and look after one another on and off the track. Wishing the best of luck to the Mepham Girls Cross Country team.
